The optics and mechanics of this large apochromat meet the highest quality criteria. The selected triplet lens offers perfect images even in the highest magnification range. The visual resolution is usually only limited by the seeing of our atmosphere.
Despite the fast ratio of f/7, the image of the lens is free of annoying color errors. The lenses are not cemented, but provided with an air spacing. The well-known FPL53 from Ohara (Japan) is used as the apo element. The temperature-compensated cell allows an optimal adjustment of the lenses to each other and the complete lens. The collimation is kept very well, so that we can also recommend the apo for mobile use. We searched for a long time to find the right objective for a real high-end apochromat and we found what we were looking for in the Skywatcher ESPRIT 150. We compared the image of the lens with other apos in the high-end class, such as TEC or LZOS, and could not find any qualitative differences. The lens even achieves this high level on the optical bench. In order to guarantee this level for all 150mm ESPRIT apos, every lens is tested on our optical bench.
Astrophotographers can also mount heavy cameras on the focuser without fear of tilting. In our experience, the Starlight Instruments FeatherTouch™ FTF3545 focuser is the optimum for demanding applications such as astrophotography with heavy CCD cameras. This focuser is of course also ideally suited for visual observation. The maximum focus length is 114mm, the base can also be rotated 360 °. This focuser can also be euipped with a motoric drive.
